Today I was reading this great guest blog post on Social Media Guru Chris Brogan’s site. The article was about how to overcome your fear when going out into public and speaking and networking at social events and conferences and such. Before I go on, let me make the point I want to make now:
I feel that the fear and shyness people have is because of ‘acceptance’ and ‘being accepted.’ Reality is people can accept you without having to agree with everything you say and do and how you say and do it, even if you are sometimes nice and sometimes naughty. READ: Chris Rock (love that guy)!
But on a much more serious note- if you don’t have the courage to stand up and face your fears and confidently talk to people, take a lesson from this inspirational young Scottish chap, Andrew Johnston, cheers.
…The 34 Rules of Maverick Entrepreneurs that is! Earlier this year, Yanik Silver, Master Infomarketer and Pursuer of Wild and Crazy Adventures along with a group of his Maverick Entrepreneur friends rented out Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island for a few days to….brainstorm and create. On the return trip home as Yanik reflected back on the trip he became inspired to compile a list of what he calls The 34 Rules for Maverick Entrepreneurs. In the world of business it is sort of like Yanik’s Commandments….think of it like 7th Century 2.0. Anyway, he posted the list some time ago and got over 100 comments to it, so for kicks and grins he “brought it back” (yesterday) which was the last day of him being age 34. And bonus offer- he tied it into a simple contest. So not only am I sharing it with you because it’s a totally fab and fun post, but also because Yanik Silver is one of our hometown heroes, YEAAAAH BOY, DC-MD-VA representing. Yanik is based in my home state of Maryland (which is a beautiful and awesome state, btw, not to mention we have great crabs :)). So of course I have to give him a shout out! It’s one thing to get writer’s block, but it’s a whole nutha thang to get writer’s block when you are a blogger, social networking or online ‘information’ marketing guru and need to regularly produce new, fresh and original content. First challenge is you have to keep your current readership interested. You have taken so long to build your list and a community among them so you know what they like and feel but also you have to be able to recruit new readers. So what’s a burned out writer to do? I mean really, how many optimized keywords can you re-optimize and re-package? Well it seems that Social Media Marketing Guru, Chris Brogan, is right on time with his recent post entitled ” Set Your Blog on Fire”…. Fantastic ideas on how to keep your topics spicy and I think that contrary to the word ‘blog’ in the title, some of these tips can be applied to other writing projects. http://tinyurl.com/4j2hm9. Yo! I am totally diggin’ the Yahoo ‘Purple’ Themed Marketing Campaign. And I think the word purple is fun to say also. It’s just a silly word, that sometimes makes me think of silly things- hence this title post. I think this ad campaignjust brings ’simple’ and a lil’ silly back to the advertising world. Not that I am an ad agency guru (although I have seen a number of people I could probably give a run for their money ;-)) but as random as the concept seems, it works. And I am certainly not a purple-holic or anything to that effect. I just opened up the Yahoo Browser and saw this little cartoon boy whiz across the top of the screen on a bicycle. It was difficult not to notice him. Then I saw him walk by in these gigamongous purple shoes. And I was thinking to myself what on Earth is that all about? You know I had to just click on it.
Are these the new digs in Copenhagen or is it a faux Purple Yahoo bike planted for the sake of publicity? hmmm. At any rate, hello to my dear ol’ Danish Friend Per and his lil’ bro’ Moanes
By looking at the various posting types from people I am following on Twitter, I already realized there had to be an extensive list of twitter applications and widgets. And today I found this article on Mashable entitled ‘Twittermania’ that definitely confirms this! This list has more than 140 compatible applications and widgets that work with Twitter, your mac, your pc, your iphone, your cell phone, your flickr, your everything!!! All the applications are compiled in one comprehensive list and has a link (to the download page) along with a short description of the app. I think I only found one duplicate (Twitterfeed ;-)) and of course there are some newer apps that have come out since his list was published in May of 2008.
