The first item on her agenda is to raise $50,000 by September 30, 2009 in order to secure a world-class training facility in Ocala, FL, for humans and horses needing her expertise and support. South By Southwest (SXSW) is a 10 day conference held in Austin, TX. It brings together the latest and greatest in film, music and digital media. That is an extremely oversimplified explanation so be sure to check out their website to see what they are all about.
A few months ago when I noticed that the Call for Speakers request was open I sent out emails to a number of the Renegade teens who are active online or in the film, music, media and creative space. Today, I am proud to announce that 3 of our panel submissions were selected for consideration to be presented during the actual venue.
1. The Age of Micro Business and Teen Entrepreneurs http://bit.ly/Vote4Teens (Submitted by Shonika Proctor)

We are proud to announce that one of our Renegade CEO’s (and currently the only grrrl Renegade) Ms. Danielle Herb, ‘The Horse Listener’ and ADHD Conqueror is going to be the subject of a 1 hour TV documentary exclusively about her and her company. As if she couldn’t get any more famous huh? Over recent weeks a google search on her name has soared from 69,000 search results to 658,000!!! Renegades CEO Founder Shonika Proctor is so honored to be managing her brand development, strategic partnerships in the U.S. and abroad and her 2010 International Drop Your Reins Tour, whooop!
This past week has been over the top and filled with media highlights (inc 2 TV features), double digit partnership requests from around the globe and exciting news (including accepting a partnership with a Beverly Hills TV Production co. that represents 5 Major TV networks who want to build some TV shows around our teens…more to follow). Double Whooop! But the big news of the day centers around Danielle Herb who is the 2009 Yanik Silver Underground 5 Scholarship Award Recipient and 2008 Award Recipient of the Start Something Grant (Co-sponsored by Target and Tiger Woods). Having just landed her first major sponsor earlier this week, and landing on the front page of the Fernandina Beach, FL newspaper it seems that everything just keeps getting better for this small town girl with big, big dreams!
Danielle Herb, 15, is an inspirational speaker, author, pioneer and the the founder of the internationally recognized Drop Your Reins and the ‘Drop Your Reins Experience’, a Youth to Youth Program that uses natural horsemanship to give kids tools that will assist them in ways to overcome fears and challenges, develop healthy loving relationships, build trust, grow their inner confidence and self esteem. Clinics are hosted at the beautiful Cheers Ranch in Yulee, FL.
The documentary will be filmed live on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at one of Danielle’s Drop Your Reins Clinics. SearchAmelia.TV a North Florida based media organization that highlights news and happenings in Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach and Yulee, FL will be doing the filming. The central theme of the documentary will be about Danielle and some of the experiential teaching techniques she uses with ADD/ADHD and Autistic youth using equine assisted activities. If you are in the North Florida (Jacksonville, FL) area you can attend as a spectactor or participant. http://bit.ly/IuGlz
In case you missed it Teen’s Turn to Summer Startups was featured in this week’s Wall Street Journal. The article talks about how teens have started resorting to getting their entrepreneur groove on since summer work is difficult to come by because the economy is soft and unemployment is so high. Essentially adults are now competing for many of the jobs that were once difficult to fill (think fast food, retail cashiers, etc). Imagine that- starting a teen business is now vogue.
Ok, so what’s wrong with this picture here?
I’m a teen and I need a job. But the jobs are hard to come by because so many people (Translation ADULTS) are out of work. So let me start a feel good ‘hobby’ business where I now have to work even harder to scrape together a few bucks because everybody is going to try and start one and use the same resources to figure their ideas out. And on top of that I am going to try to sell to a CONSUMER (Translation ADULT) who is as broke as me, hence why they took my job in the first place. But never mind any of that, my parents who once thought the idea of me starting a business as a teen was bananas is now going to be totally on the bandwagon because the WSJ said it is all on the ‘okie dokie’ because everybody else’s parents are doing it. Having said that, if you need a micro investment for your business, print the article and show it your parents
So I decided since this summer folks are going to be cuckoo for cocoa puffs and parents are going to be seeking out your favorite haunts and resources, I would share some of my favorite tips of How Renegade Teen Business Owners can break from the rat race and stay in a league all their own.
But before I get to the tips in recognition of National Autism Awareness Month I wanted to give a shout out to Renegade CEO, Danielle Herb, 15, Founder of Drop Your Reins. Her company does ADD/ADHD and Autistic Training Programs through natural horsemanship. This summer she is doing her 1st Annual Level 1 Mastery Certification Course in N. Florida. Only 10 spaces remain and the course costs $3,995 per person for 1 week of Natural Horsemanship Training (and IT WILL SELL OUT). She is also giving away one full scholarship valued at $3,995. If you are a teenager and those numbers are hard for you to wrap your brain around…guess you haven’t been reading my blog posts in full and/or spending enough time with me…I’m just sayin’ there is a reason why I only post once a week ;-)
If you want to learn more about Danielle Herb’s Natural Horsemanship course peep her site at: http://www.adhdkidsscholarship.com/ (HURRY! Scholarship Deadline Ends 4/30)
One of our very own teen CEO’s Danielle Herb of Natural Horsemanship is in the news today. She is on the front page of news station of WCTV (Florida). Here is the clip:
Danielle’s niche business is Natural Horsemanship. She uses horses and equine assisted training techniques to help ADD/ADHD and autistic children to overcome their illnesses naturally without the use of prescription medication. Pretty awesome business concept, huh? Recently after attending Yanik Silver’s Underground Online Seminar (memba’ that….I adopted Danielle days before the event ;-)) we went to Fuddruckers after the day’s conference. There, Danielle, Patricio (www.hispanicslearn.com), Marianne (www.lifeisaplayground.com), Chris (www.networkology.com) and myself started brainstorming for like 3 hours over free refills I was on a mission to come up with a name for Danielle’s book (you know me and my obsession with names and titles and branding). So I heard Danielle telling a story about an experience with one of her kids in the program and that sparked “Dropping the Reins”: Peaceful Transformation Techniques for ADD/ADHD & Autistic Children Using Natural Horsemanship (the book) and ‘Drop the Reins”: Learn to Trust (which Danielle came up with for the home study course). We also masterminded our latest creative venture ’Roughly Famous’….another day, another post!
So look out for some more great stories on Danielle Herb of Natural Horsemanship www.danielleherb.com because she is going to be rockin’ the news. And here is the clip again: http://budurl.com/yqe8
And what about you? What unique or interesting business are you doing or what important announcement do you have to make about your business? If you are between the ages of 13-19 don’t forget to write me through the contact form on this page and let me know. I want to get your story out there and maybe, just maybe your local TV, newspaper or radio station may pick your story up or you might even get more clients. You’ll never know if you don’t try.
