They say that history belongs to those who write it….and with my Teen Authors in the making it seems that they are making good on the Renegade’s brand. Without a doubt they are determined to make history and not follow it…those doggone Gen Y’ers :) It has been a tremendous and inspirational week for me and my rebellious and deviantly curious teen boys…all whom I LUB very much <3! Everyday they never cease to amaze me with the things that they are dreaming and DO’ing!
November 20, 2008:
Murph, a 17 year old teen from the U.K., kicked things off last week. He wrote to me on Thursday November 20, 2008 and said he had an idea that he hadn’t told anybody about and he wanted to share it with me. So he told me about it with much enthusiasm and how he had been eating, drinking and sleeping this ‘thing’ for the past 6 years. He had been trying to build an online community but coding was taking forever and the project was getting overwhelming. Well I explained to Murph that if he is a Pioneer in his niche industry that he needed to get his idea out there in a big way that made a statement- he had to be fast and first because indeed someone else somewhere in the world was thinking about something very similar and trying to put their idea in motion as well. So he explained to me that he didn’t have much disposable income as he is brand spanking new in the entrepreneurial start up phases. So I basically said to him, well thanks for the VIP Pass to the Pity Party but I am afraid I’ll have to pass. I told him to work it out and focus on what he would be able to creatively do with the resources (i.e., translation, read between the lines, get a clue, aka)your intellectual property. It’s something you have at your disposal NOW and it is free and you have an unlimited amount of it. Then I told him to get back in contact with me once he was able to think of something. Well…let me tell you—LOL, when I get my boys fired up and thinking on their own of the possibilities and what is at stake they think of solutions and ideas fast.
With just 73 days left in Daniel’s 90 Day Challenge he realizes that his network equals his net worth. There is no way he is going to build a business if all he does is talk about his great ideas to a few of his friends and spends the rest of his time researching the best umpty ump software, hardware, service and latest greatest whatever…. At some point you can’t talk about it, you got to BE ABOUT IT!
Daniel’s first idea aka publicity stunt to help build viral marketing and accountability was to film the 90 day process of him starting up his business and going big time.
However Daniel’s big challenge was with him going to school and starting up the business it would be difficult for him to shoot all the video himself. So he needed to find a good cameraman or two FAST and of course via bartering or pro bono to help him shoot and edit video.
This is my teen entrepreneur success story ‘in the making’ featuring teen entrepreneurs Daniel Uribe and John Brziecki. This is also the (Young) Renegade CEO’s World Premiere Video starring Daniel Uribe and John Brziecki. They scripted, filmed, edited and produced it…Pretty darn good for a cram course self-taught video class, imovie and one video camera huh? If you have any trouble viweing the video you can also watch it here: http://tinyurl.com/6ng593
So….have you ever felt like you were working all the time and getting nowhere fast?
Emerging teen entrepreneur Daniel Uribe, Founder of Lazer Bearings (ceramic skateboard bearings distributor) often felt the same way as he spent more than a year doing research for his ideal business, creating business & marketing plans and participating in competitions to gain exposure for his business. He was winning competitions, getting great media exposure, selling product every now and again and meeting lots of cool people. But deep down inside he was frustrated that he wasn’t landing any big sales to sustain his business or attracting investors to help him grow his business because he was always waiting until ‘everything was perfect’.
And one day his big chance arrived. He placed 2nd in a national competition sponsored by NFTE and Oppenheimer Funds and one of of the prizes allowed him to participate in a “mastermind group” for 3 months. A mastermind group allows people to collectively pool ideas and resources to accomplish bigger individual and collective goals.
The objective of this particular group was to accomplish what one believed was an ‘unreasonable goal’ in 90 days or less.
So within 2 weeks after working in this group Daniel made a list of his obstacles that was getting in his way and figured out how to eliminate them. He reflected on his life at that moment and decided that he could fully reap the benefits if he decided to cash in all his chips and go for it with no safety net and no back up plan.
Armed with little more than his macbook, his video camera, some clothes and a few months savings, he packed his bags, moved out of his parents home (on his 19th birthday) and set out with NO FEAR and NO PLACE to live (aka crash a friends house until you work it out) on the ultimate entrepreneurial adventure-
To launch his company Lazer Bearings ‘big time’ in 90 days or less. (His 90 day deadline is actually Nov 16, 2008).
His first idea aka publicity stunt & challenge to help build viral marketing and accountability was to film the 90 day process of him starting up his business and find a cameraman pro bono…or two to help him shoot and edit video.
So now everyone can follow along as Daniel works around the clock starting a business (while going to school) and shooting, editing and producing a series of videos that shows other young emerging entrepreneurs in real time and real life of how to get a business and their life off the ground- quick, fast and in a hurry.
