Mike Michalowicz, The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur, in one of his many short, sweet and frickin’ nutty videos (following) shows us the importance of the company you keep.
Who Got Yo’ Back?
When the going gets tough can you count on your “go to people” to be hard core and not be afraid to get their nose bloodied? Or are they going to clam up, scream and run like a little p#$$^? I can confidently say that my ‘go to network’, including Mr. Michalowicz himself is live, raw and uncensored and will stick it out with me through thick and thin. So how do you build a hard core dedicated network (personally and professionally)?
1. Keep it real. Reasonable people do not seek to alter their surroundings…unreasonable people do. All progress is made by unreasonable people. If you can’t comfortably ‘be yourself’ and speak your mind with the people in your personal and or professional network, to hell with them. You should never feel the need to “get in where you fit in”. Entrepreneurs are often rebellious and independent minded people. They are leaders so they “fit in” everywhere, yet don’t “fit in” at all. Oh the irony huh?
2. Grow with what you know. Your greatest friends should be honest critics and at the same time open to being constructively criticized. If you realize there is always room for improvement and you are able to openly share your feedback with the people in your network in ways that can help them keep moving forward then you are all doing each other a big favor. Besides, why should your parents pay for therapy when you can get it for free?
3. Be a Loser….occasionally. If you are around a group of driven and successful people with eclectic interests, realize that not everybody can win at everything all the time. Some of your friends are going to be better at certain things than others. So instead of hating on them, learn how to pool and leverage each other’s respective talents for the greater good of your group. Don’t get angry or try to be competitive with them in the same space or say that somebody stole your idea. Visionary people come up with great ideas all the time. Not to mention, few ideas that people come up with today are truly ‘original’. Most ideas are enhancements on something that has been created years ago. If you really want to pursue your idea then make sure it is something that you truly are passionate about then work together to put the idea in motion and make it a reality instead of wasting time and pissing people off. You know what I’m sayin’.
Okie dokie, so enough of the chit chat, here is the video:
